I remember reading an LA Times article in the 80s about D Boon driving back to Tucson for the holidays and he likely fell asleep at the wheel.

i guess what happened is his girlfriend was driving with him and her sister to Tucson and their van had a axle with a manufacturers defect on the axle, which broke while they were driving launching boon and her sister out the vehicle. his family received $100k for his life from the manufacturer
