From what I’ve heard, it was a design choice to make it lighter (Tundra Tracker). I cannot complain about the weight of the tracker but it’s still pretty annoying, so I can deal with the tradeoff.

There's a flag you can put in a SteamVR config file that will at least stop SteamVR from starting up when you plug in/turn on your trackers.

In the file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\steamvr.vrsettings' add the following lines:
