This is quite weird because I believe the UK does quite all right in terms of public school success. What benefit, apart from raising the next Reese-Mogg would you gain for your child?
I'm not defending these people at all but the benefits are huge. Smaller class sizes, better facilities, better opportunities and often because of who attends, better connections.
And again, objectively based on a quick Wikipedia ramble, UK public education is right up there with East Asia and Scandinavian countries. It just seems like a scam.
Our state schools are falling apart, quite literally. Class sizes of 32 is normal and the curriculum is bonkers for a number of subjects, though granted, private schools need to broadly follow the curriculum so their students can pass exams. Literacy is falling off a cliff here
I genuinely wonder about the connections. Like I have seen old boy networks, but usually it's because of something other than going to St. Anne's for 9th Form.
I see it happening in the real world I'm afraid. My brother went to public school (very posh private school, what you call public we call state) and his connections help... a lot.
It's a hard thing for a parent. Like you're sold this story about spending six figures a year so your kid would be amazing, not at all accounting for who your kid is.
Of course the gold plated benefit is that you are there in the first place because your parents/grandparents/some mad aunt in Liechtenstein, are fucking loaded and the reaper he doth reap.
Are they wasting money? Do they have Netflix, mobile phones, do they shop at Aldi? What are they spending on clothes? Holidays? Do they have cars when they can catch a bus? You know, like all the things that are thrown at working class people who struggle.
I've earned over £100k for the last few years, but I feel like I'm on the bones of my fucking arse.
But I know that, actually, I'm very lucky to be in my position, and that any perceived hardships are due to my lifestyle choices rather than any grand conspiracy to impoverish me.
Well don’t send you kids to private school if you can’t afford it, it’s not difficult. Why is this even a story, people are struggling to eat and using food banks, yet these privileged people moan about private school fees. Get a grip and live in the real world🤬
So, after they’ve spent all their money on everything including school fees, they are left with the same amount as someone on minimum wage has BEFORE they have to spend any money on anything ?
How fucking tragic. Only a couple of grand going spare every month.

It really is a marketing gimmick I think.
And you marry the same. Rinse and repeat.
The facilities, class sizes and er, great teaching are the gimmick.
