Donald Trump signed an executive order making English the official language of the United States. He and many of those who voted for him can’t even speak or write it properly.

Legally speaking, an executive order by itself doesn't do anything. It's simply the president declaring as formally as possible, shy of writing a bill, that they feel things should be done a certain way. It's up to the other branches of government to enforce or enshrine the orders as they see fit.
That may take a constitutional amendment as some states have multiple official languages. I don't think an executive order can change what has been left to states to determine. But I'm honestly not certain.
