I’ll go a step further. No federal party should be allowed to sit in the House that is against the interests of the majority of Canadians.Period.But Quebec,so everyone trips over themselves and shrugs their shoulders because Quebec is a distinct society. One thing has nothing to do with the other!
The whole point of the Bloc is Quebec independence and the party doesn't give a shit about francophones outside Quebec. To the BQ, they are irrelevant.
Historically, yes, in the 1990s, when Lucien Bouchard and Gilles Duceppe were in power. Otherwise, the Parti Québecois, a provincial political party is known as separatist also known as "blocist". The party leaders are rumored to not like each other.
Even though I left Quebec a long time ago, I still keep up with the news from there.
According to the CBC, "BQ Leader Blanchet got a last-minute campaign assist from popular Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, who called Liberal Leader Mark Carney an ‘existential threat’ to Quebec."
Why is a party that supports only one province allowed to sit in the HoC? I know some sort of agreement was made years ago but this is really ridiculous IMO. They could hold the rest of Canada hostage. I agree with Mr. Singh.
Jagmeet Singh is a fine human being. Let’s not start dissing the NDP, the Bloc, the Greens or any of the other parties. Instead, let’s be grateful for our Canadian multi-party parliamentary system. It allows other voices to be heard in Government. The US system is nothing but a football match.
NDP is running an add in BC in which they are lying that Mark Carney said that he will make cuts to healthcare. This makes Singh/NDP a despicable liar who doesn’t care about Canada.
This makes me wanna see them lose official party status even more! They can go back to the drawing board after they lose, as long as it means Carney majority and a resounding defeat of the despicable Poilievre lead conservatives.
These are the tactics the NDP employ when they are desperate. It only hurts their progressive cause.Singh is not a good leader. The Cons will kill any signs of progressive policy while it is in the Liberal DNA to favour socially progressive policies treading in the middle of some fiscal prudence.
The Bloc is not useless for QC. But the statement Blanchet recently made does not reflect how quebecers feel about Canada. That was a really bad move and it will cost him votes.
just like the ucp in AB, they've overstayed their welcome, the parties feed small egos and do nothing for the people! #VoteLiberal and everyone will be included!
My mother tongue was French and I'm part Acadian but when I moved to Hull, Quebec in the late 80s there was a definite focus on my last name by some. I was treated as a guest in some circles. It was stupid.
Unfortunately, this kind of behaviour is more common than anybody would like. Some people seem to love finding reasons to discriminate or hate others, including language, skin color, origins, sex, etc. We French Canadians should know better, having been on the receiving end of this.
But he also said no Liberals can be trusted which could alienate both Liberal and NDP supporters. Any Liberal voters who were planning to strategically vote NDP may now be offended, and NDPers wanting Carney over Poilievre will also be upset (like I am!). We need to put country over party.
I think it is retirement time for him. He comes from the parti Québécois, and so does François Legault. Their attitude toward Canada is very negative, and it is bad for both sides. I hope the liberal party resurrect before our next election.
Its been retirement time for him for a couple years now. He's not adapting new strategies for the time we're in, and insisting that the NDP can do it alone and alienating the closest allies, the Liberal Party.
The NDP is in sore need of a leadership race, but they might lose party status after this
I was just saying to my wife that I don’t understand how they can even sit in parliament. They run candidates in ONE province. Should just boot them out.
Do not forget. They were created by Lucien Bouchard in 1990 as a division of the conservative party. They had a reason to be there then... but I do not think that they are useful anymore.
I love Jagmeet. But he and his party can’t win a Federal Election because we have too many bible thumpers in this Country and that’s why we will vote for #Carney
They should ask Trump if he's ready to learn French and make America a bilingual country... Or would they sell out if Trump put a little extra cash in their pockets and let the language die off (at least in North America)?
At the origin, they would only be there during the separation to help negotiate. This wave is over. Parti Québécois is dead... there is no more reason for them to exist.
As a person who lives in Québec, the Bloc is only being held together by the people who are over 60 the 40 and under want to be disassociated with them and rather have more of a connection with the anglophones ..Blanchet time is almost up

Childish and stupid really.
Only now our situation has become precarious and no one can afford to throw their vote away.
