We are all posting on microblogging sites and awaiting a Forum to arise messiah-like and guide us inwards to reconstruct the posting patterns of the golden age.

idk, dev discords are either too big, too small, or prone to power users filling up the chat. there really isn't a *community*. rip cohost

I have a few that are very small to bring together friends from different places. Not a ton of action, but it's a very safe place to share.

I also don't ever feel like I'm sharing too much, which is very nice. I have a tough time posting on public social sites these days.

You also won't ever go viral in a small discord server, which means it changes the way you think about what you share, and for me that's maybe one of the biggest benefits.

there's a lot on Discord these days, I'm in a fair number of servers related to game devs and internet radio. maybe on Mastodon too if you join certain servers the local feed could be more tailored to that.

been feeling this a lot as well. very nostalgic for the heyday of TIGSource lately lol. i used to be a part of a pretty good gamedev discord but it fell apart. seems like everything is on discords now, but ime they're usually too big and identityless or too small and niche and tight-knit.

That's the trouble I've had too, they're either too active for me to feel comfortable jumping in or...too inactive for me to feel like jumping in. I do yearn for the forums.
