Because she's use to floating and swimming underwater where gravity has less effect. On dry land all the weight comes back and her legs aren't made for it, therefore SNAP
Isn't the opposite true? Water is so much denser than air that fish have really tough cartilage bones to take the strain of their powerful muscles. I'd expect them to bend quite a bit before breaking. Flexing bones...
