If the earliest usage of the verbal form of Gossip is earlier than I said, I’m only more correct (I didn’t say Shakespeare was the first to use it, I said by the time of Shakespeare). We can assume it happened earlier than any of the earliest sources. But that’s beside the point.

But you will notice the transitive verb is not the noun and then you will have to wonder if the etymology is different. And yes according to the OED, prior to the use of the transitive verb (though if you read Stephen Pinker, you'd already know nouns turn to verbs—not my favorite source...

has a different meaning from the noun, which isn't hard to figure out, gossip, as used in all instances from 1611-1616 means more like to disseminate information, rather than the later connotations of using uncommonly known information that's used for informal correction.
