Before the Bedtime Shema, which is likely to be new for the class, we'll talk about Shalom Aleichem, which riffs on Talmud and is less about angelic protection and more about escort and judgement. But it's still cool to feel on Shabbat that two angels are escorting me home. I love that feeling.

We'll talk about the similarity of the "May Michael be at my right hand" text with Psalm 91 (Also part of the bedtime shema), incantation bowls, and how the "May Michael" text came from commentary on Numbers 2:10 and then move on to Daniel 10:13 which is the first time the archangel Michael is named

We'll read a great midrash from Or ha-Ḥayyim that talks about the Israelites seeing Mitzrayim, the tutelary (guardian) angel of Egypt as they were running for the Red Sea. We'll wrap up with a Jewish grimoire, Book of the Garment (Sêfer Ha-Malbûsh), which invokes angels for to achieve magical feats
