After suppression of Indigenous cultural burning, the state agrees Northern California's Karuk Tribe may practice the burns more freely than it has in over 175 years.

These burnings help keep underbrush low. This is part of forest management and protects against larger, unexpected fires if/when they do occur. California is getting forestry management in this area for free due to religious practices; I call that a good deal.
be very very careful how this goes. the soil is drier, there is less moisture and warmer in the summer season, and so the ancient practices can cause major destruction if not carefully controlled.
