Often when this happens to a Jewish organization it is assumed that there is antisemitic animosity involved (which came up not that long ago in Toms River during an election?). In this case, I *think* it might reflects some tensions within the community itself.

There is a LOT of inside baseball regarding disputes within the Jewish community in Lakewood. I know some of it from the fringes but nowhere near enough to comment except to know that it happens and it can get ugly.

I was going to suggest anti-semitism in this case when I first saw, it but then it occurred to me that most of the members of the planning board in Lakewood are probably Jewish, and I think that is actually true??

The list of members has a lot of Jewish (including very traditional) names, but there are more names than votes, so I have zero clue how it works.

Having driven through the area for specific Jewish shopping, I am pretty sure that any nearby neighbors are part of Orthodox communities not that different from the Yeshiva at hand.
This is ALL SPECULATION ON MY PART, but this doesn't have the same feel to it as other antisemitic examples.

Usually some people on a Planning Board are 'alternates' who only vote if there is not a quorum of regular members.

Ironically the same people whom always cite traffic as a problem are the same ones who don't like mass transit either and tend to have neighborhoods that are deadly for pedestrians or cyclists.

I don't know why everyone makes this so hard lol.
