Kyogre is a primitive like orca, it would be great to give lineage to a cetacean. But that would be impossible because they don't reproduce even with Ditto, so evolution as our world work would be impossible :(

It's part of how "shinka" (evolve in japanese) is used in the context of growth and metamorphosis. Meanwhile in English "evolve" is rarely used in the context of growth of an individual these days (or in some cases organizations, cultures, civilizations).

When given the opportunity to do a spec evo Pokemon, I was absolutely going to do my favorite Pokemon. I thought it would be fun to play on the common misconception that chickens are descended directly from T. rex. Additionally I wanted to use dong tao chickens in a design.

T. rex is equally related to all birds. The ancestor to modern birds evolved long before T. rex did and rex died during the extinction event so it doesnt have any evolutionary descendants today.

A lot of dragon Pokemon keep convergently evolving into plane-like forms. That seemed to be starting to develop in Garchomp so I pushed it to the logical conclusion. I also wanted to mix in a nod to Macross because Pokemon loves sneaking in Japanese pop culture references.
