I’m just working on getting my algorithm to show me the content I want to see instead of being bombarded by news-related posts lol

I'd also say that since the people primarily using Bluesky tend to be a lot more "reasonable" than the usual Twitter crowd, I'd imagine that a fair amount are also just taking breaks from social media regularly.

But that's just my guess.

My engagement has been up, but I'm also one who actively tells people not to follow me unless they want to engage. I still do not understand why people want 1000s of followers. They will never interact with all of them.

I love how it slowed down to the current level. I can't keep up otherwise, and I have very limited time to do so anyway. I still hardly go on Dead Bird anymore, and I can't see myself really going back. I'd rather interact more with nice people here on Bsky than get ignored on Dead Bird.

I can (objectively) see why people are going back to the madhouse. The algorithm constantly feeds your brain with spicy or aggressive hot takes. It can be hard to stay satisfied with 50 likes on Bluesky when posts over there can reach four/five/six digit likes. But subjectively: at what cost?

I literally just opened Twitter to check on some artists, and EVERYTHING WAS ON FIRE!!! I closed the app before I fell into that rabbit hole, thankfully. Never going back to that hell. 😰

I feel like the algorithm is just not there for Bluesky yet. The posts in my feed aren’t related to my likes, which makes it feel “quieter” than another platform where I’ll see more activity from the “closer” community related to my likes. Lists fix this but they’re another barrier to entry

People always crave some kind of spicy content, drama, or a constant feed of posts that they can scroll. Bluesky doesn't really have that as much and there is less people on timeline talking in comparison. I very much noticed the big drop in interactions here, most likely cause less are active.

I agree to a point. It doesn't seem like a drama-mill because it's exactly what you said: a chill community. However, there is no shortage of people talking here, because there's something being posted every minute, literally. The reason it feels dead is because it's not a madhouse like Twitter.

I think another facet is theres no algorithm on the following feed and people aren't used to not being fed posts from randos. No viral posts or ✨discourse✨ and if you follow too many, you get an overwhelming stream of posts. I made a couple lists for myself to separate them out.

I agree w/ some of that. However my understanding is that there is still no algorithm to keep people engaged to the content that they enjoy seeing - a good thing IMHO. Plus X's large user base still gets eyes for people that are trying to push their business so that's huge. Hopefully it'll change

Twitter is like a Big club, there’s loud in your face music, creepers dry humping you everywhere you go, and lots and lots of drama.
Bluesky is like the neighborhood bar, just a couple folks singing terrible karaoke and just chilling and drinking.
