Pictures surfaced here too. Russians were thought to be leaving. KILO claimed to be "Mozhaysk", and 2 corvettes present. Also "reasons for sub and corvette to be held up in the straits is for now unknown". KILO was supposed to leave for the Pacific, not home here.

During Christmas, Russian trawler Korrund moved around for days in Northern Norway. It's at least one NATO listening cable in the area and one fiber-optic cable.

LNG ship Mulan also had a weird pattern for days south of Norway. Area is full of gas pipes to Europe.

To me, a hobby-sailor with very occasional big boat bridge time it seems extraordinary to get such interest from two Russian warships. As always, happy for input from other mariners! Fair gales.

I think there is a big problem not asking sailors. The everyday picture of Baltic and North sea is heavy traffic with military and commercial ships. But still, I find this to be possible signalling, but likely from the captains or squadron commander. "Let´s show those Finns".

Another good story in HS was one about the patrols protecting territorial integrity, the AKT ships. This kind of stories should be redone. (AKT1 and 2 were certainly active at EAGLE S incident). Innocent passage of warships is allowed by later general maritime treaties. This is also the reason why Finland and Estonia can't legally close the Gulf of Finland in peacetime by claiming the maximum allowed territorial waters there.

It's the same general agreement as far as I know, applies to many similar waterways. It basically guarantees a country with a coast access to the oceans even if they don't have direct access to international waters.
