I don't think Sega had a chance, they only had a head start. XBOX 360 vs PS3 was very competitive though. XBOX lost eventually, but things looked like they could go either way through PS4 and X-BONE.

So good! I’ll never forget Shining Force 1 and 2, such good RPGs. But also the intensity of the Super Nintendo Lion King and Aladdin. Definitely some of the most memorable and stressful games for me 😂

An exceptional era for consoles, both good as each other we think.

Even when it came to the games themselves each system would have their own sound & graphic style. For us, it depends on mood or how we feel at the time, as both systems offer incredible game libraries, many which still hold up today

I'm glad Seth Rogan got the rights for the book Console Wars, but I wish it was an actual movie not just a documentary. The stories of the feuds between NES and Sega were awesome.

I did REALLY like the movie, but a biopic type of dramatization would have been really great.

I heard YEARS ago that a biopic about early years of Atari had been signed too. But that was so long ago that I doubt it’s still in the works. Very disappointing….I’m sure that could be a lot of fun too

I remember talking smack to my friends that had a Sega Genesis ( I had an SNES) but we would all play the opposite console at each other’s houses. So while I would clown on the genesis, I was secretly jelly of games like Sonic, SOR 2, Golden Axe, etc and they would want Super Metroid, etc

This is the only console war that ever made sense to me. Sonic vs Mario, and Sega’s advertising was something special back in the 90’s. Helps that both consoles had plenty of great titles backing them up too.

For me, the "war" didn't start until much later, when the PS2, GameCube, and XBox came out. In the 90s, my friends and I didn't care which console each of us had. So long as we had one of these consoles, that's enough.

Exactly. 16-bit "console war" was marketing only. Since SEGAs and nintendos consoles were quite affordable still. Most self respecting gamers had both consoles.

To be fair, you could be a self-respecting gamer and not have the money for both. I knew very few kids who were allowed to have both consoles in their house back then. I only had the SNES and had to play Genesis at a friends house.

Was always a SNES kid. That broke at one point and I was gifted a Genesis the next holiday season. Never felt quite right. Some fun games, sure… but I always felt dirty. Luckily my next system was an N64!

I'm just gonna say it, there's barely any Genesis games that are still relevant. The war only existed because of Sega's marketing. Now, PS3 vs XBOX 360, that was a real war.
