I was an N64 kid, because Super Mario 64 was amazing. But PS1 has Metal Gear Solid, which is an all-time favorite. I've never even played a Saturn, because the best games are expensive and emulation was difficult for years.

When these came out the PS seemed less Nintendo then SEGA so I went the PS path. Now in my elder 40s I see how they are two different eco systems and each is special. Current systems are simply do you like the controller for PS or Xbox and that is how people choose.

Most of that generation's biggest hits were on PS1 (if not exclusively), but the Saturn had such an underrated library for the time. I was a Sony kid, but I can't fault anyone for preferring the latter console. It deserved better.

PlayStation. There were more games on it I enjoyed than Saturn (not including shared games, as that depended on the game, not as a whole). I own both though as I love each of their quirks.

Also, PlayStation wins for having a Sonic port that Sega could have done, but didn't. Thanks homebrewers.

(The Sonic port is one level with no boss. It was only a tech demo and it does use PS1 hardware for gradients and water reflections. Also when you lose a lot of rings some rings fly at you via sprite scaling. It's honestly a beautiful demo.)

Sony PlayStation. I have a couple of models: the original PlayStation and PS One (with LCD screen attachment). They did have a massive library of classic games, like Crash Bandicoot and Metal Gear Solid.

On the other hand, I think Sega Saturn should deserve more love though.

Grew up on the playstation and it was able to maintain relevance for multiple generations. I will never forget getting the ps1 as a little boy for Christmas. Its one of my favorite memories. So definitely playstation.

Like the SNES vs the Genesis, I could only afford one. So I got the PlayStation and never looked back. I've never played the Saturn so I don't know what I missed.

I only had the Saturn, both UK and Japanese consoles. Both were excellent but I loved the arcade ports from Sega, Capcom, Taito, Cave and SNK. Titles from Treasure, Team Andromeda and Tecnosoft delivered greatness. So many amazing exclusives for both Sony and Sega.

The PlayStation as I felt burned by Sega for the Genesis for having games not as good as their Super Nintendo counterparts. But I wish that I did play some Saturn games. That said, I enjoyed some DreamCast ones and was sad when they ceased operations.

I had a Saturn I sold as well, about 2 years ago (even had the original box). I bought it when I worked at Kmart, years after its release, and we found a surplus of them (and they were just $40 each). I only ever played the three games that came with it, though.

The ps1 outsold the Saturn so bad that from a future perspective, there’s just a wider selection of great games. That’s not to say Saturn games were bad, but tons were timed exclusives and on both consoles anyway. Saturn is a fighting fans Mecca tho.

From the Master System to the Saturn, I was a SEGA kid, though the Fifth Generation is when I branched out by getting a PS1 and an N64.

Saturn had some great titles, but I'd have to put the PS1 just ahead of it overall.

The ps1 has many great games but my heart goes out to the Saturn. It has a great mix of simple fun games and games that were pushing genres into uncharted territory. Also the Saturn community had never been better. People creating translations and emulators and helping newcomers with any problems.

Playstation, mainly because I grew up with it.

But the Saturn has some of the best ads. Mainly the Segata Sanshiro series. Would've absolutely convinced me to buy a Sega Saturn back then.

I was a Saturn guy. And I’m glad I was with the prices these days. I felt 3D was being pushed too soon at the time. I felt 2D still had a place in gaming at that time. So I appreciated many of the beautiful games on the Saturn. And I was heavy into the Capcom fighters and Saturn was the best.

Id say it depends if you want to play a lot of Saturn games, if so then I think it's worth it. I know that original games are pretty pricy (like $100 at least per for most titles and PDS is like $1000 now)

Plus emulation still kinda struggles with Saturn games

When I was younger ps1 because that’s what everyone had myself included. But I had one friend who did had a Saturn. I love going over to his house and playing when I got a chance. Now I’m older I prefer the better versions of those fighters on the Saturn. And the system as a whole.

I was a Nintendo 64 guy for this generation, but have fond memories of playing Panzer Dragoon Zwei and one of the Virtua Fighter games on Saturn at my friend's place. Plus as a kid who grew up with the Sega Master System, that brand has a special place in my heart.

The Sega Saturn has all the best arcade ports and some wildly offbeat games that are a delight. For that matter, in Japan it did in fact outsell the Playstation until the release of Final Fantasy VII.

Sony's consoles could not handle the vs games on PS1 or PS2. The Saturn and Dreamcast played them all flawlessly.

This is hard for me but I'll have to say PlayStation. Saturn was no slouch in its game or delivery but I took the PS road and was wowed and filled with tons of nostalgia for it. The Saturn was the system my cousins had, and I played in snippets and had an absolute blast with but PS was my baby.

I prefer the PlayStation here. I love the original story behind it's concept and how a deal with Nintendo went south. Sony on the other hand was decreasing in popularity and they're console war with Nintendo was winding down.
