One of the best things that ever happened to me in my early adulthood, I had a mentor who had mostly worked freelance and she taught me that “contracts are your shield” and that’s what a job description is.

My grandfather taught me a very important lesson when I was younger. He said, "Boy. You go cut the grass in the front yard and I'll give you $5 so you can get some G I Joes." This is my grandfather. I would have done anything he asks no money needed. So I get the lawnmower and go do it.

Now, when I got money from Papa, bills were for birthday and coins were for everything else. So he sets the coins in front of me and then hands me a perspiring delightfully cold paper cup of soda. Pops the straw in and I'm in heaven twice now. Dr. Pepper. He's eating on some nuggies and sauce.
