I've read that Rumeysa Ozturk is a Turkish student at Tufts on a Fulbright.
I was a Fulbright Scholar in Turkey from 2009-10. If Turkish police had disappeared me from Bogazici University for criticising Ankara's treatment of Kurds, Fulbright would've likely discontinued there for years. 🧵

"A terrified young student, snatched off the street by a masked police force taken thousands of miles across the country without anyone knowing. It is as flatly authoritarian as anything we have ever seen in this country," says @chrislhayes.bsky.social on Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk's detention.

I want her to have every protection that I had. I want every student's Fulbright year to be as safe, welcoming & wonderful as mine was.
This is a travesty.
They're making the world- and the United States itself- more dangerous for American citizens in ways that most Americans do not yet grasp. And they're making the US less powerful: 🧵
And in 🇺🇸 itself, no one should expect assaults on free speech & due process to stop with foreigners:
Consider how, in just two months, the circle of repression has already dramatically expanded from what Trump's campaign advertised:
Those goals sounded reasonable enough to many Americans who want secure borders & disapprove of rewarding people who've supported terrorist attacks with US citizenship.
First, they came for:
🔹️Criminal illegal immigrants
🔹️Illegal immigrants
🔹️Legal immigrants of color
🔹️Legal immigrants who dissent
🔹️Anyone who dissents
