Thinking more on this I think individual subscriptions / patreons is also not the answer - I would be so here for paying for an interconnected network of local offline communities (did I just find another way to describe chiptune?!)

Wildly I think the “efficiency” is actually the problem - nothing will beat passive listening and having a robot spoon feed you music for a monthly fee - people need to make a conscious decision to step away from efficiency to become more actively involved in their music listening
