The history of protest leading to change is not good, an exception was civil rights in the US but they had a wonderful leader MLK, elsewhere tyrants ride them out, it’s happened everywhere, remember Belarus, recently in Georgia and in the UK where 1 m protested in support of EU
The skeptical line against protests has been my main path for years, but I believe we’re dealing with something different here; American has a different cultural dynamic, people get caught up in populism in America. This situation is a matter of making people look, protests help.
You are absolutely right and wise to think about the effectiveness of resistant activity. I have been doing this for years. However, I have come to the realize that cultural transformation is a plural process: it takes all kinds of people doing it in different domains & different ways.
Also Brian, for-profit (private) prisons must sign contracts that include specific requirements for the basic treatment and care of prisoners. Has anyone requested to see the agreement made with El Salvador?
is there a youtube link for this clip? I can't find it and I would like to share this tonight since it's relative to today's protests. People need to hear that what they did today is working. Thank you!
Brian mentions an empirical fact: Trump retracted the election of Elise Stefanik. Also, the fact that this regime is trying to frame these protests as being illegal, or needing to crack down on them.
