Yeah, it might be a good chance to talk about armor and equipment - the Elder Scrolls games are very much caught in the same trap as Dragon Age in terms of costume design folding in on itself.
And there's also something to be said about the Empire's Rome...thing.
Interestingly, for all of its Roman trappings, the Cyrodilic Empire blends a lot of the Holy Roman Empire too, as it is basically a confederacy of princes.
I'd be especially interested to see your treatment of the whole "military leader leads army to victory and eventually becomes emperor before fusing with two others to become the hero-god of humanity/his empire" if it's not too far out of your wheelhouse!
semi-related: I like how in the late Septim era the Imperials have Latin-sounding names, but by "Skyrim", 200 years after the Empire semi-collapsed, they start having names that sound more Italian-ish (Vittoria Vici, Adonato Leotelli etc.)
What was retconned was other stuff. In Morrowind, what we see and hear about Imperial culture tells us that it should also have some Japanese influence, and jungles, and lots and lots of rice terraces, in addition to the Roman aesthetic.
The big thing I remember about the big Empire retcon is that the capital was described as like, this sweltering but beautiful swamp paradise with royal wildlife moving freely through a massive open city and then the game is just....Poverty Minas Tirith lol
