The original SARS-Cov pandemic was over 2003/04 when only singular new cases were confirmed, with there bein no new confirmed cases past 2004.

That seems an impossible standard here, given that we’re almost certainly stuck with this forever a la the flu. Assuming it’s permanent, when do we stop calling it a pandemic and call it endemic?

Endemic just means it's constantly present, which for covid19 is kinda up in the air. But I cannot stress enough that it's stupid to see elimination of a disease as an impossible standard - not only because we are eliminating diseases, including endemic ones, but because that's a goal you're setting

I think there was a point where it was possible - sadly seems that point is probably well past in this particular case barring a vaccine that eliminates it entirely like measles or chicken pox (which seems unlikely given the mutation speed?).

19 more days until the 4th anniversary of the last routine voicemail mom left me. Then 10 more until her voicemail informing me the virus was in her LTC. Then 24 days of silence while she was in an ativan haze while dying alone & neglected in her LTC until she finally died on 5/4/20.

In 2020 and 2021, I really didn’t get sick at all. Last year and 2022, I got sick again outside of flu season. It was especially bad 3 or 4 times. The way society treats Covid now is unacceptable. “I think you’re hiding behind your mask.” “Why are you wearing a mask?” “You’re living in fear.”

I'm so glad I live in a blue area. Very, very few other people are masking any more – but I get no grief or side-eye looks for the N95 I wear in all public indoor places and in crowded outdoor ones.

COVID is now endemic, and hopefully becoming less and less harmful over time. It didn't have to become this way, but that doesn't mean we have to be complacent with how it has developed.

I work at home and feel safe in my progressive neighborhood. If I leave my safe zone, it is a hand sanitizer bath as soon as I get in my car. 4 years covid free and intend to stay that way.
