please don’t ever discourage important discussions for the sake of ~good vibes~. engage respectfully but don’t shy away from voicing your opinion. we make progress and learn by putting our brains together, not by avoiding difficult subjects.

once we came over here from twitter, people have gotten under the impression that this app is supposed to be a safe place and an escape from the world. i think that mindset is slowly driving this app to be twitters 2.0
this is so important. it's easy to get wrapped up in toxic positivity culture. but, I do think that some people in this community need to work on their listening skills - attacking someone for having a different opinion is not okay. you will attract more bees with honey than vinegar.
even when it comes to something as obvious as LGBTQ+ equality. my experience leading an ERG in a conservative workplace is that listening to others' perspectives and gently challenging their beliefs with personal stories or other connections goes further than just screaming at them.
we hosted workshops last year about microaggressions, and by listening to skeptics, we were able to have a thoughtful and engaging discussion about why this is an important topic and how microaggressions can negatively impact your peers, even when "it was just a joke."
Thank you for this I've been voicing my opinion more often, respectfully ofc but I always feel sick everytime I do bc I'm scared people will get mad at me 😭
absolutely NEVER feel scared to voice your opinion!
there's a big difference between the toxicity of twitter and voicing opinions here that yes sometimes can get heated. it's completely unrealistic for people to expect sunshine and rainbows when the world is going up in flames
and this goes beyond an album cover, obvs. i often see people getting nervous over discourse between bsky is peaceful. i think we should all feel free to speak our minds (respectfully), ESPECIALLY during times like these.
no you're so right, it's so important. sometimes we just need to sit in our discomfort because a lot of vital topics can be uncomfortable (ESPECIALLY if it's a learning moment!). I respect our peace here a lot but it should never come at the price of turning a blind eye to pressing issues 🙂↕️
because*, not between.
i think that’s the beauty of a loving community 🫶🏼
most of us seem to be on the right side of history anyway, sometimes specific views will just differ a little! diversity in thinking is crucial as well.
