IES going down is catastrophic.

I’m told the Institute for Ed Sciences has been shut down. Started with all contracts but including grants momentarily.

Have confirmed effects already hitting many research orgs.

Anyone else out there have info?

WWC too. These guys created the evidence standard that serves as a template for so much of assessment work done across federal and state agencies.

This will basically destroy the evaluation industry if it stands. IES is responsible for a ton of high quality quasi-experimental studies and for funding research that has generated major methodological advancements.

(I assume besides all the people whose livelihoods will be directly affected)

They fund an enormous amount of research: evaluation work but also methodological advancement. It's going to leave us in the dark going forward (and yeah bury a bunch of organizations)

Yeah. But also they have generated a lot of the standards that other agencies have eventually adopted/adapted. So the evaluation industry more broadly has been shaped by their work.
