This is a lovely contemplation on Mario Odyssey, reframing the game as awkwardly sitting in the uncanny valley of the series’ logic. I don’t know that I fully agree with it, but I loved reading it!

But just for me personally, the gameplay mechanics are a little too watered-down, as are the rewards for discovery.
The interaction with the world felt like the difference between playing air hockey vs playing peek-a-boo with a toddler. Slower, expected, very cute? But not thrilling.
