If my face has an authentic (unmasked) expression, it's because I have such big feelings that they leak out.
Ordinary feelings don't get out. I have to fake my face, even when the emotion is genuine.
This is why texting is so much preferred. My words are more descriptive than my face.

Autistic me doesn't struggle with empathy.
I do however struggle with mismatched emotions.
I care deeply, my emotions don’t always show on my face.
Someone’s crying? I may go silent.
Someone’s excited? I may not match their energy.
It’s not a lack of empathy. It's processing emotions my way.
