I would recommend playing Ocarina of Time first. Majora's Mask is a 'sequel'. I use the word sequel loosely because you don't NEED to play OoT to understand MM, but it's definitely nicer! I hope you will enjoy it!

You can honestly do either and you'll be fine! Majora's Mask is an acquired taste I think. I know some die hard Zelda fans who really struggle with it, but it was always my favourite as a kid. Do you plan to stream it?

Majora’s Mask is a FANTASTIC game, and not just because it was my first Zelda game. It is legitimately SUCH a GOOD game, the entire atmosphere is creepy and dreadful and as a kid I was actually kind of scared of the game lol
