Games of 2024, an ordered list.
10. Satisfactory
I fell off at Phase 4 when I started needing resources from all over the map. The tools for building out a logistics network are inadequate, and once I realized that most of my playtime was going to laying rails, I gave up. Fun up ‘til then, though.

A lovingly crafted and remarkably faithful feeling tribute to EGA text parser adventure games a la Sierra. Hard to recommend if you don’t have severe nostalgia for that stuff, but I do, so I found it delightful.
Fantasy Persona with SMT’s press-turn battle system. Didn’t really do anything more than that, but I didn’t need it to.
Still making my way through the fourth planet, but they made smart changes with 2.0 and even smarter additions with the expansion. The factory continues to grow.
What if someone made Resident Evil, but without zombies? Some of the late-game puzzles drop this down a couple notches for me, but I still really enjoyed it.
Ogre Battle is great, Vanillaware is great, this game is great. A bland story is really the only knock against it I have, although given that their last game was 13 Sentinels, the story not being better is a bit of a disappointment.
Like everyone else, I played a lot of Balatro this year. A very smart take on the rogue-like deck-builder. Deserves all the kudos it gets.
