It is not only the airlines. Any relaxing of sanctions should be coordinated, if done at all. No lines of communication other than those already open. Should be opened. Russia is an aggressor country at ear with a neighbour.
The reopening of direct air traffic is probably a good example of the USA joining the axis of evil, together with Russia and North Korea, to fight freedom and Western values
You don’t want planes that has been poorly maintained fort the last three years in your aerospace. Unless of course you are Traitor Trump then anything goes as long as it helps Russia
If US drops sanctions, this will directly conflict with ongoing EU sanctions. EU in theory would need to sanction USA - hard to do this economically, USA too big. USA would then be trading, and in a very meaningful way like China, with EU enemy. This will cause many types of problem.
