Its very interesting that the concept of changing resolutions on a computer started as a means of picking between restrictions of colors and pixel density because of hardware limitations and now it is mainly an accessibility tool.

This isn't entirely new, though. In the 90's I would opt for DOS versions of games over Win95 specifically for lower resolutions and larger sprites and UI elements, and in the 00's I kept my HD consoles in 480p just for legibility.
Because without limitations we would all want the biggest resolution possible, with all possible colors and maximum framerate for everything, right? That's what enthusiasts do.
But back in the 90's it was between huge colorful icons or elegant simple colored icons.
Back in terminal days, the choice was between colors and columns, where professional applications would desire less colors and more information onscreen, where gamers would want as much color as possible.
Now you lower the resolution not because of the computer's performance, but to see better.

So crazy.
