The thing about weaning ourselves off fossil fuels is that it's a good idea whether you understand MMGW or not.
Greater energy independence, reduced pollution, more sustainable, more efficient.
Other than the cost of the transition itself, there are very few downsides.

Life will continue, just the earth as we know it will become less hospitable for humans.
In the UK there are zero subsidies on EVs, PV, and home storage. Yet people are buying up this new technology because it improves their lives and saves them money in the long run.
This transition is happening, with or without you.
The right have a habit of making up stuff that 'they' are going to do (who are 'they'?)
Show me a single govt in the world that has banned meat or limited the number of flights we can take.
Even in the EU these things aren't happening.
Which is why we should apply the precautionary principle.
If you're not sure, you take the path of lowest risk.
Let's stop extracting so much oil, it's going to run out anyway. Let's slow the spread of a disease. Etc.
I used to work for a fish farm. The organism that causes aemobic gill disease is very temperature sensitive. If the sea drops to ~4.5⁰ it dies off.
So you start the year with no disease burden. It takes months for the disease to appear. By late summer, you are seeing the signs
Suddenly the problems we used to see in August are happening in June.
But in the real world, it makes all the difference. Companies are spending millions every year combating this.
Anyway, that's my own personal experience of the effect of 1.5⁰.
(Yes, they do)
Fact: even if you run an EV from COAL it is greener than an ICEV. They are just that efficient.
Anybody with an EV has two or more more days of storage sitting on their driveway which can power their whole house.
