Incredibly solid original design, from what I was able to find, this was replaced because people thought it looked too much like a skull-and-crossbones.

Today's flag is the original flag for the village of New Maryland in New Brunswick. Named for a group of loyalists from MD who settled there after the revolutionary war, their crest and flag draw inspiration from the MD flag. This is the original flag, since replace by a "seal on a bedsheet" design.
