This is why either giving Tyler O’neill the QO or signing him to a short-term deal made so much sense. They are clearly unwilling to shell out long-term deals which is understandable given the big 3 prospects coming, but they need a top of the order RH bat if they truly want to be competitive.

They clearly misread the RH bat market. There were very few good fits from the get go. It seemed like Teoscar or bust but he ended up wanting to stay with the dodgers, regardless of money. I was shocked they didn't QO O'Neil.

9th in runs scored last year with Casas, Story and Grissom missing most of the year. Add Campbell and Anthony to the equation and I think they’ll be fine. Liked the power of O’Neil won’t miss the 33.6 strikeout rate.

9th in runs scored at Fenway is akin to an average or slightly above average offense. Many projections once again have the current lineup as average at best. A boost from Casas and the rookies is mitigated by Duran regression and TO power lost

They’d be dumb to sign him for 5+ years. They’d be better next year, but it’s still a dumb move. You can’t block Campbell (and shifting him to an already crowded outfield doesn’t help) and Bergman’s not going to be a legit 2b (if he even is now) in the second half of that contract.

I think Bregman definitely helps them in 2025 and 2026 but it’s wild for anyone to assume that contract doesn’t become an absolute albatross for 4-5 years on the back end.

This is divergent to my point that I'm just not high on Bregman. Period. The Campbell option was just an example of how bad I think the Bregman contract could be as soon as a ~year from now. We also have RH Grissom as a legitimate possibility at 2B.

I'm pissed they missed out on Snell and Fried. I can't say the same for Bregman. I'm excited for next offseason when they miss out of Vlad Jr, Michael King, Dylan Cease, and Zac Gallen. I'm sure they'll also make a feigned attempt at Kyle Tucker too!

I'm not sure I understand - the Sox didn't get either of those guys. Their angle really should be Braves-esque and give long term deals to the guys they love in the pipeline (Anthony and Campbell specifically, Mayer is iffy given his health record)

For those saying that he is an imperfect fit and/or already in decline; that might very well be true, but the Sox created this imperfect roster with their decisions to date. So they either need to find a better RH fit, or make an uncomfortable offer for the lone remaining FA bat that could help.
