'No role for Europe in Ukraine talks' - Russia will only want to deal with trump as they know they can get the orange wankmaggott to agree to anything they demand - Europe (and Ukraine) need to freeze the US out of the negotiations and grow some balls. A united Europe (minus Hungary) can beat putin.

An interesting outcome would be if the US and Russia came to an agreement and Ukraine and the rest of Europe ignored it. The US would probably stop providing weapons, but would they actively support Russia? I fear that they might.

Trump will sell weapons to anyone, so while the US transitions out of Europe I would hope they can use frozen Russian assets as they ramp up their own production. Lavrov has made clear Russia will not negotiate if Europe is at the table, so the whole Trump/Putin bromance is pure farce.

Yes, but it is neither 1938 nor is Ukraine Czechoslovakia. Ukraine is putting up spirited resistance despite its military inferiority and hesitant support, Europe is (almost) united for once. With its 3-4 times larger population and 10 times the industrial potential, Europe must stand up to Russia!

Agreed, but although Russia is basically a 3rd world country with nuclear weapons, it has plenty of people to feed into the meat grinder that is war, and should the US aid them with weapons or, more probably, technology, there could be a problem.

Apart from money, I do wonder whether Trump's world view is of 3 powers (US, Russia and China) carving the world up between them and agreeing to leave each other alone. He is a dictator, no more, no less.

I think China and Europe as economic powers are more likely his concern in his "America first" worldview, apart from being a nuclear power (which China and some European countries are as well) russia is the weakest opponent to US hegemony.

Russia & Russia 2 can hold talks in Saudi. They can even agree how to carve up the world. Sorry, I meant "agree a peace deal." Ukraine is unlikely to accept it, and Europe is upping its support to Ukraine. Just like the Gulf of Mexico, Trump will find he doesn't dictate international geography.

Now is the time for a united Europe. The UK has to accept that our special relationship is over with the US and we now have to look to, and lead as well as support our continental neighbours and allies into a new era. There’ll be dire consequences but Europe must stand firm and look to new allies

“Nothing about us, without us” has long been the mantra of the disability rights movement. Advocating no decisions about the lives of people with disabilities without them either being there or being represented. Needs to be the phrase we all use about Ukraine as well
