The download loophole they're closing was only particularly useful if you specifically had an older e-ink Kindle. Amazon Fires have weird DRM shit.

The KindleForPC route, meanwhile, still works fine, you just need a specific older version, Calibre, and a specific plugin. Line those up? it's ezpz.

someone finds a workaround for the weird DRM shit that I'm positive is mostly being forced by the handful of large publishers. Because buy at https://Bookshop.org -> download -> MoonReader+ would be a really nice setup!

Yeah for stuff like books and video I'm never going back to anything that has DRM that isn't easily breakable. Stuff like video games are kind of a lost cause in that regard though unless you only buy indie stuff.

The bookshop dot org DRM is a bit disappointing, but I did appreciate this answer in their faq. Hopefully they can't change this fine print retroactively in the future?
