Organized mutual aid is amazing and necessary, and informal mutual aid is also amazing and necessary and (done with intention and thoughtfulness) can create the relationships and trust that successful community organizing always eventually will hinge on.

Connect. Aid and accept aid.
Find your moments of mutuality.
It's messy, it isn't an exact exchange of tit for tat, and that's good.
But mutuality-- the foundation of gift economy-- absolutely does.
Find community (even just your neighbor down the hall), find ways to practice mutuality.
Build trust. Build relationships.
Organize.
It takes time. But if we do that work, ultimately we will win.
