That's how they "cured" Asperger's Syndrome.

This all went down when Big Pharma took over the DSM Board of Directors. They removed Asperger's because they can't make money selling meds to treat it.

I think the erasure of the spectrum for just "autism" really hurt things. Now you have people calling belief in "aspergers" ableist, but I don't think aspergers, low functioning and high functioning autism have the same recommendations, so like... aren't we just hurting people's treatment??

Hey just gonna jump in here autism is frequently referred to as ASD aka its a spectrum disorder. Aspergers as a diagnosis has a few issues outlined here (mostly the nazi stuff)

I think there are some issues with how it was diagnosed but from what I'm reading the new 3 tier system also has issues in lacking granularity which appears to have hurt treatment for some people in the first level, so maybe the name itself is bad with the historic context

What a ghoul. The number of people with autism has not gone up--he needs to do some actual research. There's broader criteria now and increased awareness. And who are these scientists who are going to miraculously find out what's causing it? They were fired probably, and $ for research is gone.

I already think that abortion of some disabled children is eugenics by the back door, and have always said I'm glad there's no prenatal test for autism. I'm not a forced birther, but we have a long way to go to become a disability positive society. Until that happens, eugenics is already here.
