oddly I think the best example here is Sunday night at Glastonbury 2011 when Zane Lowe spent the evening saying he didn't rate Beyonce and how he went to see Queens of the Stone Age instead. Then Beyonce surprisingly turned up in the BBC studio for a post-gig interview and Lowe got told to go home

A lot going on in this particular storyline below but I think it relates to the above. If you slag off players, they might not want to talk to you after the game. That's natural. If I was a player I'd be the same! So it's helpful to separate interviewers and pundits.

Absolutely. Let pundits pundit and journalists interview. It's obviously possible for ex-players to become journalists with the right training and experience but it's a much less natural transition than player-to-pundit.

I would take it a step further. Delay the interview until the day after or the "Monday". All managers w/ players & physio's (for injury updates) on the same day.

They get time to digest and so do we, and they get to hear pundit reactions.

Ona related note, what did you think of the BBC's "big interview" that Gary Lineker did with Thomas Frank? Seemed just a pointless love-fest to me, not worthy of being described as an interview. Of course we all love Frank, but as one pundit might put it, "do your job".
