This is why this discussion is futile. You either don’t understand or refuse to interact with the actual concerns of the other side. If you’re arguing a woman’s rights over the unborn’s right to life, you have to convince them the child has no such rights. You’re yelling at the echo chamber.
I'm still not seeing how the idea of an unborn child having a right to life the overrules the mother's bodily autonomy is a belief you can impose on other people, especially if it's a belief deriving from religious principles that you don't share.
(Assuming the context that sex was consensual.) I’m not asking you to agree, just to see. FWIW I’m ‘soft’ pro-life - I think we need to be realistic about the grey zones like assault and abuse. Also I’m not American so it’s not political here in Australia like the US.
It’s a belief that can be derived without religious principles but I guess that’s beside the point. The unborn child is alive and human. Killing humans is generally considered murder. In that light, can at least see why they would preference a human’s right to life over another’s bodily autonomy?
That's the essential problem, isn't it? The pro-lifers argue that pro-choicers are denying the unborn's basic rights... Except that until birth, that's just a concept of a child. Ascribing potential to that concept and forcing everyone to act on that is insane.
The status of the unborn is where the argument lies. But my intent wasn’t to argue. These are deep and often nuanced issues around the nature of what it means to be human that both sides need to think more deeply about if we’re to move past culture wars. Peace.
Yet, millions of American women (including many from large, blue cities) voted for the person who took their rights from them. There is an odd dynamic going on here.
True. But in our case, a mere 4 years ago we experienced this same party & leader and we knew just how terrible they were. So for us, this was not some new option; rather a MUCH worse one. Especially for women.
We had a global pandemic, and Trump's poor handling of it contributed to global economic conditions. Seems like the voters then punished Biden for the global economy, if only by too many not voting.
To anyone against birth control. "Where's your quiverfull brood? Shouldn't you (or wife) be mindlessly crapping out babies like some ignorant barnyard sow?"
Most of the right-wingers against it will have used birth control most of their lives.
The aristocracy have always encouraged breeding to enlarge their herds, while being mindful not to over-populate their own class, so there’s more for each of them.
obama will forever be in my top 5 for best US presidents of all time. off the top of my head, the only presidents i’d put above obama are washington, lincoln, kennedy, and teddy roosevelt
