Extremely frustrating to me how trans men in history are never allowed by cis historians to simply be men. We are ALWAYS assigned back to female and ascribed the motivation of attempting to escape misogyny.

one big reason i'm thanatophobic (afraid of death to a phobic degree) is because i know even five minutes after i'm dead, the majority of society will say i was "living as a man" for any number of reasons aside from my *being* a man :')

there is such a huge parallel in how there is a view that both transmasculine and transfeminine people are “stealing” something from cis women/womanhood simply by existing too as though femininity and feminine expression is a limited resource

Exactly this. Trans women are “stealing” something that “isn’t theirs” while trans men are “traitors” who are removing ourselves from the noble cause of feminine liberation and in so doing, robbing them.

They’re extremely protective of their so-called “strong, independent women” icons and think ascribing transmasculinity to them is an insulting downgrade to their personhoods and legacies—a message most trans men I know, including myself, have internalized to some degree or another.

Right. This reminds me SO much of the way cis people act about culturally gay trans women that they prefer to interpret as gay men, as if cis gay men get erased in our favor instead of the other way around!

I often wonder what it would take for them to label someone a trans man. He can change his name, call himself a man and live as one for the rest of his life, but even THAT doesn’t do it. So what do they WANT?
