This is the same nonsense that certain Dem Senators have been trying to push. “Save our powder”

But also completely without evidence. If you leave the public square, your voice is gone not saved.

I presume this means they’re losing money. Good. Maybe when this shakes out there will be something to salvage but right now I want them to the Sulzbergers to hurt, their ego and greed contributed to this crisis.

Generally newspaper endorsements matter more in lower-profile races: so local, primaries, and down-ticket. Times endorsement mattered a lot (tho not always decisive) in mayoral, City Council, state legislative races, especially in Dem primaries.

I think that the NYT is still finding their balance between being the local and newspaper of record of NYC and being the only truly global newspaper. And yes, I think that they are a bit lost while doing it.

There is some case to be made here for NYT imo. This country is a lot more moderate on a lot of issues than NYT is. There are alternative cases to be made for divisive cultural issues than rubber stamping whatever the most liberal approach is. Moderation and integrity is a reasonable goal.
