Production costs for green hydrogen range from $4 to $12 per kilogram today. The 2030 goal? $1 per kilogram. Can policy and innovation close the gap?

How about using the heat that is burning off oilwells and using it to make hydrogen in situ

My nephew said that people are using free electricity at oilwells to mine for bitcoin. I'm not sure if they were using electricity created from the fire coming out of the top of the well

Rather than burning the flared gas which creates greenhouse gases, many oil and gas producers now use the gas to power clean (99.9 % combustion efficiency) generators which are used to mine bitcoin. Bitcoin energy use is far cleaner than most people understand.

Could that energy be used to make hydrogen instead of bitcoin?

Accusations of high cost is just a repeat of what was said about solar or wind power.
