If we ever do a huge Works Progress Administration again it should have a giant public records family tree project under it to pay all of these people currently doing the family tree labor for free on ancestry dot com

Oh cool thanks I will check it out. I just followed my sister who has done a ton of this and immediately realized the platform lock in was extraordinarily high.
One time when I was young we got caught driving in a blizzard and pulled off on the side of the road in rural Nebraska down a farm's driveway hoping to find an unlocked house to shelter in.
Turned out there was, the family was home, and they were my mom's first cousins! We'd never heard of them.
I'm on a faith-based version of this app because that's what my sister uses and I'm struck by how the trees are defined by what this church believes the family is.
A public version would be better about relations and children in and out of marriages, and ways to display relationships like adoption.

Maybe if more USians knew who all their far flung relatives were they'd be a little more curious about folks they've never met.
