Be so real right now, no artist should be ashamed of using 3D refs/ models when some of us (me included) have trouble visualizing things at different angles. They are tools just like any brush, people need to get over themselves.

Deadass like I have no ability to see things in my head. I need refs constantly. And 3D ones?? All the better for angles!
But I guess some folks just aren’t ready for that conversation 🤷♂️
I don't see how it's different to drawing from life, tbh. It's still just drawing from something that's in front of you, I fail to see how it's somehow "cheating" compared to, say, having someone pose for you while you're drawing except far more convenient for everyone involved.
The cheating debate starts when people draw over 3D, literally tracing and insist on saying it's exactly the same as drawing from a reference, usually with excuses like "I don't have time/helps my workflow/I can't draw". Drawing is drawing, tracing is tracing, whatever tool used in the making.
Hate to tell you this but I draw over models :P Of course, not entirely. Then it would all just look wrong. I still work on my anatomy but if you wanna call it tracing as a blanket excuse, that’s your opinion.
So to clarify because apparently more of peoples problems lie in drawing OVER the model. I do. Cry about it.
It’s like an armature in a puppet for me. I form around it and it helps me keep the anatomy in line. I don’t trace it verbatim.
Take that how y’all will.
I was taught to do this very thing though to learn short hand, it builds muscle memory! People just like using any excuse to discredit artists, nothing we do will ever be enough to some people
I'm not an artist, so I'm looking purely from the outside in, but is that a thing that people get in a tizzy about? I don't think I could understand why 😅
Some people are upset with refs alone, but more are upset when you “trace” over a picture of a person or a 3D model. There should be no issue with this, there are thousands of free use model pictures and outlining where muscles and bones are help us learn.

i am terrible at visualizing things, i can know the idea of what i want but just. cannot. visualize it enough to actually DRAW the image
using references isn’t cheating, the fkn mona lisa was made w a reference, starry night was made with a reference
