I recently bought jewlery from someone in the fandom/community for this exact reason, plus it makes a good talking point too IMO. I feel like its cooler to say there's this guy who can do it that does this stuff vs idk.. i got it at the mall/amazon/etc.

more often than not, it's actually directly contributing to building community. you're not that likely to be buying something from a small, independent creator who isn't very much a part of your daily life and in your proximity.

it’s the one bit of capitalism that still makes a little sense to me… seems like everybody wins. the buyer gets to directly support a craftsperson they like, and that support goes straight to the artist, which likely then flows back into the same community… shop small, screw the soulless big guys!

You give oxygen to the community by supporting the people who make things for the community.

This is why I inherently discourage gacha game and Fortnite furry skins. They’re actively cutting into our community’s resources, IMO.
