That bird seems to be inappropriately named — his belly is white, and his head is red. So much for truth in advertising.

It does have subtle red markings on its belly but they aren’t visible in this image. There are a number of other woodpeckers in different areas that look similar to this guy so naming birds can be a challenge. Also, look up a red-headed woodpecker and you will see why this guy isn’t named that.
