Some part of me fears the response I'd get making the jump from fanfiction to original stories.

• Of course the philosophy is unpolished and poorly thought out, she wrote fiction.
• Of course the writing is bad, she wrote philosophy disguised as fiction.

• Just a silly sci fi story
All depending on who you ask. And somehow other books by the same author does not help in figuring it out.
Not one part of the book strikes me as satirical. It all reads like "kids these days, so soft and pampered. Now, back in my day!"
I mostly read it due to how immensely influential it was in mimitary science fiction.
