I remember all of Nixon's bs. When I turned 18 and I started discovering that to get a small loan or a credit card, they wanted my dad to co-sign. Not because of credit, we didn't have that back then. I was absolutely fuming. I made a scene, wrote so many letters. Told every girl I knew. Sigh...
In the early 70's I had to get my husband's signature on all rental agreements, even just to rent a TV.
At a job interview in the late 70's early 80's I was asked if my husband would allow me to do overtime and women weren't allowed to wear trousers in the office.
lol. It's sickening. I had a dress code at one of my first big girl jobs that required women to wear a girdle. I never did it. I told my friend they could ck if they wanted. Nobody ever did. No pants. Had to wear hose. UGH
I recall when women, once married, had to resign. We were indoctrinated, it was Normal. Because of that & being on the side of the beneficiaries it took time to recognise the disparity. If you questioned the status quo the push back sometimes devolved to threats of violence. Good old Days?
Oh, yes. When I got married, my credit cards and loan payments, deposits for phones, utilities and whatever else, was taken out of my name and put into his. Again, I caused a scene and nobody ever cared.
Before 1964, my mom, a married woman, was fired for being pregnant, first with me, then my sister. In college, I was not allowed to get either a savings account a college loan, or checking account without my dad’s signature.
Of course the men are on board with it. It’s their model. Taking care of the males. Then after the woman takes care of all his need and births his kids he splits for some other attraction and she has no skills or resources.
I grew up in that time period and I was caught so off guard when I went out to work. I could not believe that these ppl expected me to obey them. I couldn't. Wasn't in me. That was in the 70s.

This is also why my tubes came out last year. I'm too close to menopause to lose access to EFFECTIVE contraception now.
