I worked in immigrant advocacy for several years before I retired. The only thing you can do is to make them fear that what they do will make their lives worse — make them realize that if they keep going down the path they are going they will never win another election again. That’s it. It works.

Honestly, I think crossing the line to the other side to listen is vital. Half the reason they all love Trump is because they feel unheard and they think he listens. (I think that they are mistaken...but they haven't figured that out yet.)

This week, for the 1st time in my life, I went to my parents and asked them to tell me about their political views, which were as bad as I expected. But they seemed to appreciate me being willing to listen and open to me sharing info. I'm their best chance at being exposed to truth at this point.

Is that how they see it though?
Every time I’ve gone into any of those spaces they see my presence there as the victory. They care about the number of people who are actually present. Higher numbers means that they get to go out to their community and say “look at all these people who support us.”
