In most systems around the world, even in democracies, there are always aspects of it that don't properly represent the will of the people but that of the most wealthy. I believe his criticism would only apply in a situation where the democratic structures in our society were more extensive.
Universal healthcare—what a concept, right? It's no wonder a majority of liberal democrats support it. Fewer costs, better outcomes, and something resembling equity—what’s not to love? Well, unless you’re an insurance exec clutching your profit margins or a pharma giant allergic to oversight.
I didn’t ask what a majority of democrats support. I asked what a super majority of Americans support. The fact is, the country is divided on a plan for the future. The rich aren’t the problem. I’d bet money the majority of the top one percent are in favor of at least a public health option.
